Wind in a Touchline Interview? Test the Recording Before the Conversation
Compare microphone protection and interview positions using a recorded speech test. Keep an intelligible take before preparing the club video for publication.
Before an outdoor club interview, record a short spoken test and listen back to the file. Choose the microphone position and protection from that result, not from how quiet the location seems to the camera operator.
Check the equipment you actually have
RØDE describes foam covers and furry windshields as forms of wind protection. Check the manufacturer’s instructions for your own model and the fit of its protection; a cover that fits another microphone is not automatically suitable.
Use the position planned for the conversation. Ask the speaker to say a complete sentence and pause. Listen for words obscured by gusts as well as handling or clothing noise. Watching a level meter alone does not tell you whether the sentence is understandable.
Change one thing, then listen again
Try a more sheltered interview position where filming is permitted, or the compatible protection recommended for your microphone. Keep the spoken test comparable and listen at the same playback level. Do not promise that an editing filter will restore words that cannot be understood in the recording.
In a hypothetical test, the first clip has a clear picture but a gust covers the athlete’s surname. The second, recorded in a sheltered position, preserves the whole answer. Choose the usable position before recording the full conversation; a quieter pause alone is not enough to approve the take.
Keep a simple test record
- Record the microphone, wind protection and position used.
- Listen to a spoken sentence in the recorded file, including a pause.
- Change one setup choice and repeat the same sentence.
- Keep the version in which the words remain intelligible; move the interview if neither passes.
Check again if the wind, clothing or microphone position changes. This is a practical recording check, not a universal wind-speed limit or a guarantee of clean sound.
Prepare the checked video for your audience
In Pleymeikel Labs, you can upload videos and organize your catalog. Keep the source recording and review the approved export before handing it over for publication. Recording checks happen before this hosting workflow; they are not a claim that Labs automatically removes wind noise.
